Recently, a pal and I also had been dealing with growing up American that is asian in white areas and schools, and she explained that whenever she was in fifth grade, guys teased her in the play ground by stating that she had a “sideways vagina.”
It has happened certainly to me, too – and I’m certain to therefore a number of other girls that are asian.
The race and gender identity of Asian women is seen as so foreign, so “alien,” that our vaginas magically defy biology from racist humor in mid-1800s brothels to today’s playground jokes.
Throughout my life, I’ve received undesirable remarks and questions regarding my human body, particularly my physiology, including being harassed from the road with phone phone telephone calls like, “Ni hao,” “Konichiwa,” “Are you Chinese, Japanese, or Korean,” and recently, “Hi Ling Ling.”
In addition, in my own dating history, we was anticipated to be much more peaceful and less assertive.
The hyper-sexualization and fetishization of eastern Asian ladies is problematic – I’m not “lucky” that my competition and gender is thought as sexy and exotic, that Asian ladies “all therefore breathtaking.”
Or that, a graphic search of “Asian ladies” pulls up exorbitant images of women posing in lingerie. Continue reading
